Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about interactive 3D product presentations
General Information
What is Govie and how does it differ from conventional 3D videos?
Govie lets you explore a product interactively in 3D. You can rotate it and look inside, even while animations are running. A video shows a fixed view instead.
Do our customers need to purchase a software license or install a plugin to explore 3D results?
No. Govie runs directly in the browser, without installation or additional plugins.
On which devices can Govie be used?
Govie runs on desktop and mobile devices, as well as VR and AR devices.
Our agency also does 3D. What's the difference?
Agencies often turn 3D models into images and videos. In an interactive 3D presentation, you can rotate the product and look inside while animations continue. This can increase engagement and understanding of the product. We complement your existing agency and work with them.
We don't have the time and resources to create Govies ourselves. Can 3DIT assist us?
Yes. We handle the modeling, animation, programming, and integration into your website or platform. We will need some input from you and time for feedback sessions.
And what about VR, AR, MR, and XR?
We provide 3D content for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). We also help you integrate and use the content in VR, AR, and MR applications.
Collaboration
What do you need from us to create an interactive 3D product presentation?
CAD data of your product is ideal. We will check its suitability free of charge and can sign a non-disclosure agreement. Without CAD data, we can model your product or its environment from images or sketches. Videos or simulations help us show moving components and processes. You can also contribute text and other media to the presentation.
We are familiar with 3D. Can we reduce costs by doing some work ourselves?
Yes. You can simplify your CAD models yourself, and we can show you what to consider. If you can also design and animate the models, for example with Blender or 3ds Max, they can be used for interactive 3D product presentations. With the Govie Editor, you can create presentations from them without programming skills.
Data & Compatibility
Which CAD and 3D formats are supported?
Govie supports formats including STEP, JT, IGES, Solidworks, Inventor, and Catia, as well as IFC and LIDAR data.
What happens if no CAD data is available?
We can model your product using images, sketches, or videos that show how it works.
Can extremely large assemblies be displayed efficiently?
Yes. An asset pipeline can simplify geometry in advance. Level of detail (LOD) and streaming also allow us to load and display only the data needed for the current view.
Where can we find additional references and case studies?
Find more examples in our project library. Contact us for more information.
Security & Know-how Protection
How secure is our intellectual property (IP protection)?
We permanently simplify the CAD design data. Users see only the simplified models and cannot access the original data. Precise dimensions and the design history cannot be reconstructed from those models.
How will our know-how be protected in an interactive 3D product presentation?
The 3D product presentation contains no CAD data or metadata. Reverse engineering is no longer possible. We remove anything you do not want to show from the 3D model.
Are there additional protection measures for highly sensitive data?
Yes. Geometry obfuscation distorts the model to make reverse engineering harder. With pixel streaming, the raw data stays on the server.
Where are our data hosted?
That depends on your solution and requirements. Govie applications can run on our servers, local web servers, or your own servers. Discuss hosting with us during the initial consultation.
Where can we find more information about data protection?
Data protection depends on your solution. Contact us for more information.
Value for Sales and Marketing
What interactive possibilities does the viewer offer?
The viewer can display hotspots, annotations, and sensor values (IoT). Users can transform components in space and access scenarios and animations.
Can real-time data (e.g., from machines) be integrated?
Yes, for custom solutions. Applications created with the Govie Editor do not support this. During the consultation, we will determine whether one-way or two-way data transfer suits your use case.
Integration & Costs
How is Govie integrated into our existing website?
We integrate the engine as a module through an API bridge. It can exchange data in both directions with frontends such as React, Vue, or Angular.
We have hundreds of product variants. Won't 3D product presentations be too expensive?
We develop a pipeline that automates much of the model preparation. This reduces the time and staff needed, making interactive 3D product presentations affordable even for thousands of products.
We have many products that need to be displayed in independent 3D applications, and we have concerns about scalability and the resulting costs.
A largely automated pipeline reduces the time and staff needed to prepare models, even for thousands of variants.
What if we only have a very small budget?
Interactive 3D product presentations are often no more expensive than 3D videos. With the Govie Editor, you can create presentations yourself without programming skills and publish them on different devices. This takes time, but many users get good results, especially with less complex projects.
Is there a solution for small budgets or in-house work?
You can create interactive presentations yourself with the Govie Editor. You do not need programming skills.
Where can we find guides and tutorials for Govie?
Find Govie Editor tutorials in the help section. We can create guides and tutorials for custom software on request.
